Yep, still alive

Been busy.  V. busy.  Sick to death of bloody courses.  And bloody stats.

Grr!

(Boyfriend, on the other hand, is still well worth travelling for.)

An Acton idyll

Discovered at the weekend that I have yet another new reader to add to my ever-growing list of fans. Means I can't say too much about him -- don't want to inflate his ego too much. :-)

But, ohhhh, what a fantastic weekend. Got on a train down to London Saturday morning and met Tom at St Pancras. We wandered around for a bit, stopped at a cafe for tea and toast, then the British museum to look at old coins. Back to Tom's to drop my bag off, drink tea and watch his housemates man-handle a Christmas tree into the lounge and into its pot, then we were off to ice skate outside the Natural History museum, where Tom (aka "Ice") impressed me with his superior skating abilities. Until I pushed him over. 0:)

Then we wandered around looking for a pub to eat in, but the amazing-looking food-serving pub was full, so we ended up in the Khyber Pass for a lush curry and Tom took the opportunity to come out as a fellow Woodcraft Folk-er. Hurrah! And then it was back to Acton on the tube.

Sunday we watched Tom's Pavement DVD and I convinced him that Steve Malkmus (who I really should get round to adding to the List) dances like me. And we argued about whether Yo La Tengo are rubbish (me) or the best band ever (him). And then we walked down the High Street and bought ginger cake and ginger beer and an interesting shaped vegetable that tasted foul, and decided not to go in Morrisons because it was bustling with dirty Cockneys.

And then it was time to go home and I was left with only fond memories... and the knowledge that I have to go to London on Tuesday for work... :-) :-)

Today was really good. Only Julian from my team was in, so the phone hardly rang at all and we got loads done. Now I'm trying to decide whether to go to the last hour of the Flying Teapots sesh tonight. Thinking that once again I probably can't be arsed... I have boxes full of no-longer-needed PhD stuff to ceremonially dispose of. :-) :-)

It doesn't get much better than this :-)

My life's taken a rather nice turn for the brilliant recently. I'm in Leicester at the moment, which is always good. Had lovely meal and lots of laughing with Clurb, Plumsie, Uncle D and Alby on Saturday night. I've managed to shake off the mild Dean obsession and be quite matey with him. Viva is passed, thesis is printed and has been deposited for binding.

Three main wonderfulnesses:

1. Being Dr Rosie, obviously. I can now get on with the next phase of my life. Which is rather enjoyable, for the following reasons.

2. On my Government stats induction course last week I happened to meet a dreamy, floppy-haired, funny, nice bloke from London called Tom. And now I don't have any corrections I have time to go and see him at the weekend. Yay! As well as being nice to see him, since I'll be staying at his flat I'll have an opportunity to check out how much of a messy/tidy person he is. These things are important, if love is to blossom. ;-)

3. Went back to Sheffield yesterday for our unit's "away day" -- icebreakers, finding out what all the other teams do, etc.  Got there and was told that we'd won the "Top Team award", which I'd spent my first couple of weeks compiling the nomination form for.  So now, along with a cash prize, I have another reason to go to London... :-) :-)

One not-so-good thing is that the week before the induction course I chanced to meet a similarly nice statistician called Tom in the pub in Sheffield.  And I acted all interested.  And so he did too.  And now I feel like a mean nasty woman for having to pretend I just wanted to be friends all along.

I'm getting bloody men are like bloody buses syndrome again.  Apart from that, everything seems to be going a bit too well.  I suspect someone will pull the rug out from under my feet soon...
