Nipples!

Well I can attach jump leads to your nipples if you would like me to but I think it would hurt.
Normally you attach one to the terminal on the battery and the other to part of the car making sure you know which way round both the cars are wired (usually negative earth)

I don't think Clurb would be very happy about that...
... oh, I see -- you were talking to Clurb.
So does the battery provide the spark in the spark plugs then?

yes and no, the battery powers the engine but the spark plugs are connected to a distributor which is in turn connected to a coil.
I can't remember what comes before the coil but eventually it will trace back to the battery.
one it is running though the alternator provides the power which is used to create the spark, more than anything the battery runs the lights and the starter motor which is what really gets the engine running.
I think.....

Hello Rosie,
I thought you might be interested to know (sorry if you are already aware) that Michael Palin is due to appear on The Culture Show tomorrow (7th Oct) at around 19:40. If you can ignore Lauren Laverne being irritating that may help. Oh, and yes I would too.
